2026 Chantelle Johnson Memorial Scholarship Awarded to Ruth Colon – A Story of Service, Identity, and Purpose

Scotty D Charities is proud to recognize Ruth Colon of a local Pasco County High School as the inaugural recipient of the Chantelle Johnson Memorial Scholarship.

Ruth earned this honor with an outstanding GPA and her acceptance to Southeastern University, where she plans to pursue a degree in Finance followed by an MBA. Her journey reflects not only academic excellence, but a deep commitment to service, leadership, and community impact.

In her essay, Ruth shared a powerful story of growing up navigating cultural identity as a Puerto Rican in a predominantly Mexican community. Through the guidance of her parents, she developed a strong sense of compassion, work ethic, and purpose.

Her volunteer work with “Sowing 4 Jesus” food pantry in Tampa further shaped her calling, exposing her to the realities of hunger and homelessness in local communities. Inspired by these experiences, Ruth hopes to one day launch a nonprofit focused on housing, education, and food access for those in need.

The Chantelle Johnson Memorial Scholarship honors students who reflect kindness, determination, and service to others—values Ruth embodies fully. Scotty D Charities congratulates her on this well-earned achievement and looks forward to the impact she will make in the years ahead.
