Santa Scott Grant Street: Dade City Honors a Legacy of Service, Love and Christmas Magic
It’s Official: Santa Scott Grant Street Is Coming to Dade City
Some moments are bigger than a vote.
On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the Dade City Commission passed Resolution 2026-18, approving the renaming of a portion of 15th Street between Church Avenue and Meridian Avenue in honor of beloved community member and Scotty D Charities founder Scott Grant.
The new name: Santa Scott Grant Street.
For the people who knew Scott, loved Scott, and experienced the joy he brought to the Dade City community, this was a deeply meaningful night.
The street name will serve as a permanent reminder of a man who spent his life serving others—first through decades in law enforcement and later as the Santa Claus who brought Christmas magic to countless children and families.
A Community Came Together to Honor Scott
The Commission meeting included heartfelt remarks from people who knew Scott personally and experienced his impact firsthand.
Roz Carr, whose family hosted Santa and Mrs. Santa for eight years during Church Street Christmas, spoke about watching Scott and Jackie create unforgettable moments for children.
One of Roz’s favorite memories was watching her husband quietly learn a child's name from a parent and pass it along to Scott before the child approached Santa.
The result was pure Christmas magic.
“The excitement and wonder on a boy and girl's face when seeing them greeting them by name was just truly priceless. For those children, it felt like pure Christmas magic.”
Roz also spoke about the tremendous dedication behind Scott and Jackie's work, emphasizing that Church Street Christmas was only one part of a year-round commitment to helping children and families.
She reminded everyone that Scott leaves behind “a legacy worth celebrating and remembering.”
“If You Met Scott, You Were Family.”
Following Roz, Katherine “Kat” Warren spoke on behalf of members of the community and the women she described as the Lady Elves.
Kat's words captured something particularly special about Scott: his ability to make everyone feel welcome.
“He didn't just serve the community; he loved it. He welcomed everyone with open arms. It didn't matter who you were or what you had. If you met Scott, you were family.”
Kat also reminded the Commission that Scott's work continued even while he was battling cancer. Through Scotty D Charities, Scott and Jackie organized toy drives, charity events, hospital visits, and their annual Christmas program supporting families in need.
In 2025 alone, 55 families and 124 children experienced Christmas because of their efforts.
Kat's message was clear: while Scott cannot be replaced, his community can continue the work he started.
“Because streets are more than just places we pass through; they are reminders of the people who helped shape our community.”
A Special Tribute From the Bellamy Brothers
Andy Cobb, speaking on behalf of the Bellamy Brothers, also came before the Commission in support of the resolution.
Andy has known Scott his entire life and spoke not only about Scott's years of public service, but about the special place he held in the hearts of local families as Santa Claus.
“Dade City has produced some legendary people, but Scott stands out among the best.”
Andy described how Scott brought hope, smiles, happiness, and love to children and families throughout Dade City.
He also shared a touching personal memory.
As a law enforcement officer, Scott had a special bond with his K-9. On the day Scott retired and had his last day with his K-9, he had one special dream: to bring the K-9 to the Bellamy Ranch and take a photograph in front of the Bellamy Brothers' gold records.
Andy and the Bellamy Brothers helped make that dream come true.
“His smile was priceless. Scott was a priceless guy.”
It's a small story, but it says so much about Scott. Even after decades of service, he found joy in the people, experiences, and relationships around him.
A Permanent Reminder of Santa Scott
Andy also spoke about why the street renaming is so meaningful:
“Honoring Scott by renaming 15th Street would be something he would be so proud of, and it gives an opportunity for this community to remember him each and every time we travel that roadway.”
And that is exactly what Santa Scott Grant Street will do.
Every time someone drives down that road, the name will serve as a reminder of Scott's commitment to his community.
It will remind people of the children who sat on his lap.
The families who received help.
The volunteers who gave their time.
The Christmas memories created on Church Street.
And the countless people who simply knew Scott as someone who cared.
From Law Enforcement Officer to Santa Claus
Scott devoted decades of his life to public service through law enforcement.
But somewhere along the way, he found another way to serve.
He became Santa Claus.
What began as an act of kindness grew into a calling.
In 2018, Scott and his wife, Jackie, founded Scotty D Charities, expanding their efforts to help children and families throughout the community.
Scott understood that giving wasn't just about providing something someone needed.
It was about making people feel seen.
It was about making children smile.
It was about showing families that their community cared.
And it was about making sure no one felt forgotten.
Scott’s Legacy Lives On
Scott passed away on March 18, 2026, following an 838-day battle with cancer.
But his story did not end there.
His wife, Jackie, the Scotty D Charities family, volunteers, friends, and supporters continue the work Scott cared so deeply about.
And now, a piece of Dade City will carry his name.
Santa Scott Grant Street isn't simply a new street name.
It is a tribute.
It is a thank-you.
It is a promise that the community will remember.
And perhaps most importantly, it is a reminder of the lesson Scott lived every day:
Give what you can. Show up. Make someone smile. And never let someone feel forgotten.
